Rejection - what's next
Sara's small bowel rejection has continued to worsen over the last few days. After another look today through the endoscope at the condition of her bowel, the doctors have decided to give her the rejection drug of last resort, starting tonight. Side effects of this treatment are complete supression of the immune system, and the risk of infection from even small things. If it works (70% probability) Sara will stablize fairly quickly but recovery will be slow with a many-weeks hospitalization. If it doesn't work, then the only alternative is another multi-visceral transplant. Sara will make it work no matter what path she is given. She did get a short period of good food indulgence before the latest events, and looks forward to experiencing this again! ...m2
