Saturday morning, and Sara is within good ranges on everything they are monitoring and testing, but she hasn’t woken up yet. The sedatives were turned off Friday at noon, but the effects have been slow to clear. She has been making a lot of involuntary movements through the night, and an occasional flicker of an eyelid. Not responding yet to commands (however, she doesn’t always respond to her Dad when she is awake either ;-) The nurses say this is all normal given the length of time she has been sedated. They anticipate she will wake up slowly during the course of the day. I’ll update when Sara gives my hand a squeeze in response to a stimulus…m2
Evening update: Sara is awakening and responds to questions sometimes with a gesture of her head, and opens her eyes a little with heavy lids. Her limbs are moving around a lot and she is clearly trying to wake up, but the effects of all of the drugs are lingering. She can't breathe on her own yet and still has the ventilator (breathing tube). They have been trying to let Sara breathe on her own with backup from the machine, but she wasn't strong enough. As predicted, Sara wants the ventilator out (and pronto), but that won't happen today. I’m reading Sara your comments, and I’m sure she is processing them. Thank you all for your support and prayers. They make a real difference…m2

Hang in there Marc and Sheri, it's going to be a good day today.
ReplyDeleteLove, Susan
Yeah, we daughters don't always respond to our dads, even when we should...;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. I hope Sara's having some sweet dreams right now and pray that the pain won't be too terribly excruciating once she wakes up.
I hope y'all are somehow finding a way to get some rest during all of this.
Looking forward to more updates,
Casey
I know this is going to be a great day!!!

Dear Sheri, Marc, and Sara,
ReplyDeleteThank you SO MUCH for posting! We have family and friends everywhere praying for strength, less pain, and healing for Sara; and for comfort, strength, and endurance for her entire family. We also pray for you all to feel incredible love being sent your way. We are so thankful for this progress!!!

Hi Marshall family!!!! It's Kendall from Sun Dancers and TCU.. :-D
ReplyDeleteI feel silly but I just now realized I can comment! I've been following the blog for a long time now but anyway..
I just want y'all to know what an amazing family you are. Truly, I can't think of anyone more kind, optimistic, and loving people. Sara, I haven't gotten to meet you yet, but Jillian is absolutely one of my favorite people, so I'm sure you're awesome as well! ;-) It's funny, I feel like I know you after reading for so long.
I have been truly, truly praying for you Sara, and the rest of the family at often as I possibly think about it, and ESPECIALLY when big things like this are going on! It's so exciting to see that so many people are asking God for your healing, comfort and strength- I just know He will get you through all this with an amazing story to share!
I'm praying for the family as well. For rest and hope and joy and blessings all around. Keep shining! Please let me know if there is ANYTHING we can do to make things a little easier... a little brighter :-D I hope to see you guys again soon!!
Peace & Blessings,
Kendall
