Day 4 after transplant

Out of nowhere late last night, Sara started very rapid breathing and high heart rate, like she was running a sprint. Sara was partially awake and was terrified. The doctors believe it was a induced from one or more of the cocktail of IV meds she is being given, pain, discomfort from the various tubes entering her body (9 of them), or a combination of all of the above in a perfect storm. They systematically modified some of her medications and reintroduced the sedatives. Whatever the cause, it took hours to get her stabilized, and every time she seemed stable, it was off to the races again. I was thankful the breathing tube was still there during this process. Now she is sedated again and sleeping comfortably.
The doctors have decided to take her to the OR again on Monday to repair her incision, which has started to open up. As a result, the breathing tube stays in for another day or two. On the bright side, other aspects of her recovery are on track. The nurses and doctors here treat Sara and all of us like family, and demonstrate extraordinary teamwork and expertise. Sara has experienced a lot of hospitals, and the care at Indiana University is head and shoulders the best we have ever experienced. We are truly thankful for that.

  1. I'm so sorry that Sara has had such a rough day. That all sounds very, very scary. Her poor body has been through so much. I hope she can get some good rest throughout the remainder of the day and that the surgery goes quickly and smoothly tomorrow.

As always, thanks for the update.

    Sincerely,
    Casey

  2. Sara, I'm sorry you had to go back to surgery. I pray that is behind you and they can begin getting you back off the sedatives so you can breath on you own. That has to be a very scarry feeling.
God tells us He want give us more than what we can handle, maybe you need to let Him know you have handled enough. With that in mind maybe He is just waiting on you to say I can't do this on my own anymore and completely surrender it all to Him. God is big enough to handle all of our situations.
You have the most loving parents any one could ever have, now magnify that by thousands and you have God who created you and loves you unconditionly. I pray that you will be able to rest now and begin gaining you strength back. I haven't seen you since you were alittle girl but I can tell you are an amazing young lady. God has given you a story to tell and I look forward to hearing more from you.
I'm thankful that the hospital staff as been so good to you, they do begin to feel like family, I have experienced that myself.
Give your mom and dad a big huge for me.
    Rest well I pray
    One of His
