Baby Steps

Day 2: Continuing progress today. Vitals are stable, nursing care is phenomenal, doctors all tell us Sara's recovery is on track for a multi-visceral transplant patient. Abdominal pain is THE big problem, hovering from 8 (very intense) to 10 (worst pain ever). Sara argues that it is a 12, but 10 is all she gets credit for. Doctors started to scale back the pain meds as they paralyze the bowel from functioning, and we all want the new bowel to start working right away. It is "tough love" time, and Sara is in for a rough ride.

The physical therapist started working with Sara to get her prepared to sit up in bed (today), stand next to the bed (in a day or 2), and then start to walk around the room (by the weekend). Sara is still very weak and moving pegs the pain-meter, so moving is a careful calculation until her body settles down...m2

  1. What a touching and remarkable story you have, Sara. Eriko shared her concern for you, your family, and the donor family. I will be following your recovery through Eriko and your blog. I'll be praying for your caretakers to adequately manage your pain while your strength and stamina increase.
    Blessings,
    Pam Cosart
