At 14:02 EST, TODAY, I got the call I've been waiting 43 days to get. This could be a false alarm or the real deal. I have to be at University Hospital's ER by 4pm, and more will be known at around 7pm EST, as that is when the donor will go to surgery and when the IU procurement team will get their first look at the organs (I'd be getting a small bowel, colon, pancreas, and stomach). No one can tell me at this point if the donor is in-state or out-of-state, and IU's Team flies all over the country for organs, BUT regardless if this is really IT, I'd like to say a thank you for the donor and their family for making the decision they did at what must be an incredibly difficult and devastating time.
What was I doing when my phone rang? brushing my teeth
What was the first thing I did after I hung up?? - cried, cried, and then finished brushing my teeth.
I'm on the verge of a meltdown. I'll probably be able to keep my cool until I hear more, but there are no meds on the market that will avoid the meltdown I'm going to have once I know it's for sure a green light. I'm going to lose it...

It was a test for all of us. I don't think any of us were really ready for "the call". Hang in there! Good things will come to those who wait.
